Crowing
The nights are very long with dark coming around 6.  I did not bring a flashlight and sitting by the fire sooner or later comes to an end.  Morning comes around 6 but in the wee hours of the dawn a phenomenom occurs wheneve we are near a settlement.  A rooster begins to crow and soon all those in hearing range chime in seemingly trying to outdo each other. After a barage of this it suddenly stops, maybe they are tired or maybe they are wondering if they are doing it right?  Then it begins again.  This happens many times until the dawn breaks.  They all strut around confident in the empowerment that they have called forth the day.  I have to smile in the realization that we are just like them.  We also call to the heavens in so many voices and ways.  We Chant, we pray, we sing, we dance, we conduct ceremony to bring about rain or peace or whatever our desire is.  AND  if we do it long enough, loud enough, passionately enough using the right words the right motions, the right WAY hanging out our prayer flaggs, burning our incense, counting our rosery.  WELL  the sun comes up.  rl

I love this piece. However, It is not that we are making the sun come up silly. There are many reasons to get up before dawn to pray, chant or crow in the ambrosial hours. Have you contemplated why animals would do this in their natural rhythm? One can not truly understand it's benefit unless they experience it themselves. Even though my mind thinks it's better to sleep in, I am amazed how much more energize I feel when I actually get up before dawn & do my sadhana compared to when i don't. Maybe you will give it a try and see for yourself? You can try crowing if you prefer it to Japji. Love you~Rajni
