I believe the current phobia and state of fear in the U.S. has been foisted upon them by their own government (currently run by corporate interest). If the public can be convinced that they should…Continue

Oh that magic feeling, no where to go. A line from an old Beetles song. I have felt that feeling on numerous occasions. It is the same feeling as when you hit the gap as its called. The place of quietness, stillness and non judgement. There is a walking meditation in which you whisper to yourself with each step "I have arrived". Another way to describe it is drifting, a kin to the weightless intense quiet of floating and letting yourself go. Going on a long journey with no exact route or even destination in a primitive mode "riding horses" is my inspiration to do all those things mentioned above. It has nothing to do with accomplishing some great or never before done feat, or breaking some record. If no one ever knows about this trip it would not matter. It is about the experience, that is in fact the only reason we exist. This trip has no expectations, no criteria for success no ability to fail. The slow plodding of one step at a time, the absence of responsibility. living in the moment and the excitement of what is around the next bend. I am in a unique space to be able to do this. Let the adventure begin.
After some contemplative thought (I think about this a lot) regarding the two extremes of thought and action which are Fear and Love I want to dedicate my life and of course this trip to rooting every action and movement to love. There is no fear in love, perfect love drives out fear. When I analyze the my actions, movtives and inspirations ( in spirit actions) as well as the same in those I come into contact and interact with I can clearly detect the root cause. By seeing this I can then redirect and change the entire scenario it is truly profound.

Its a nice name for the cell phone service in Guatemala if not the entire Central America's. It is quite amazing how extensive the coverage is. Even in some of the most remote places we travelled one could get service. Seeing the tower was a sure sign of a some kind of settlement. What is even more remarkable is how the population has adapted to this feature. The poorest of the poor and indigenous people could be seen…

Calendar
When one thinks of the Maya one of the first things that comes to mind is their famous calendar. Apparently it is truly a marvel of observation of the heavenly bodies and their movements and a reliable predictor of the seasons and the important things to an agricultural people like the Maya like when the rains will come and when to harvest. To a primitive people it certainly was a daunting task to amass such information and it…

Maya
The Maya did not have cemeteries as we know them, at least to date none have been found. It is one of many mysteries that surround this great civilization that flourished in Central America for approximately 400 years . What archeologist have found is that in the courtyards of the living or family units were the remains of humans and curiously in each family unit were collections of human skulls. Human Skulls are also a recurring carving in the many…

Thugs
San Martin does not have a police department. A few years ago the local constable was trying to extort money. The local vigilante committee (whom will never be known as they would suffer reprisal) beat him to death and then publicly burned his body. The entire department packed up and left town. Their absence in the town has gone unnoticed. Life goes on fine except that everyone pays 2 Q more than they did in the past when going on the bus to…
